McG,

(Saw your drawing in the Poser Group.)

What would she do there? What would the plot be?

I saw Avatar four times in IMAX, and have the Bluray DVD (and watched it the
day I bought it). Lovely movie.

But how do you think Lara would fit in there?

Jerry, do you just lurk over there? :-p

Didn't you play Tombraider? TR3, India? Underworld? She gots *jungle*
man, jungle! She don't need more than that! Jungle and floating
mountains, Ahhhhh delightful! :-D
Aw heck, there are a few things she can do. She can thwart the heartless
bloodthirsty business entities that stop at nothing to get what they want.
And you can bet they'll be back too! There are doubtless many interesting
things for her to discover there. And she'd rather cooperate with nature
there than kill everything that moves.
Just think, she can make those glorious signature Swan Dives without even a
water puddle. Make sure there are some of those giant banana trees with
sound fronds to break the fall though.
The Na'vi are apparently as old a race as humans are here. Lara can
discover that their and our origins are actually from the same original
stock. Which implies there are other races like us in neighboring star
systems. And further states we were all 'seeded'.
The one Gotcha! to the whole thing is time. The Avatar scene is set in
2154. That would put me at 200 years old. And Lara just a bit younger.
;-)

I saw Avatar in 2D the day after Christmas. Fell totally in love with it.
Pre-ordered the DVD at Amazon as soon as they made that available. I got
it two days after the DVD was officially released. I have no idea how many
times I've watched it since!

Yes, just Lurk, mostly. I figure that until I actually get a new system, load
Vue and Poser on it, and actually do some rendering myself, I don't want to
comment on the renders there.

2154. But who says it has to be today's Lara Croft? It could be one of her
distant relatives who are in the same line of work, exploring and archaeology.
She could be just exploring the archaeology of the Na'vi, and their history.

McG,

Getting out to Pandora would be no problem. They already sent biologists out
there. And the Avatar story centered around the biologists. Who's to say there
isn't another department there exploring on the Na'vi archaeology? There were
an awful lot of Avatars running around the camp, many more than you ever saw
in the Biology Department, hinting at other departments exploring Pandora too.

And another way for her to get out there would be for her to have joined the
security detail as a scout. They are military for the most part, but I could
see the company hiring just about anyone who had the skills they needed. And
she has a lot of tracking, scouting and infiltrating skills. And when her tour
was done, she would just stay there instead of returning to Earth.

I think a story with Lara being just Lara-sized, interacting with the Na'vi
and the Pandora fauna, would be more interesting. Of course, every Na'vi she
ran into would comment on her Queue hairstyle.

That last could be said in this real world in the next year I think.
What could FEMA be planning with nice shiny new train passenger cars with no
seats, only manacles enough for a couple million people? And the Army
training for domestic deployment?
Might be best we enjoy our Lara, Pandora and whatever else while we can.
